HBU's recent form has seen us take the title race down to the very last game of the season against Middlesborough at the pier next saturday night.
HBU have shown true grit, determination and style by travelling to Middlesborough (with only 5 outplayers) and securing a draw, apparently very unlucky not to win, and Grimsby away last weekend with only 4 out players and winning comfortably 3-6.
United are now finding form, this weekend beating a full strenght Manchester team 21-6.
It's all set up for next week. Since a loss to Bury early in the season, United have been under pressure, we knew we could not afford to lose anymore matches. We are now where we want to be. HBU love the pressure, and this season has not left us disappointed. We are not there yet. One more victory and our title stays with us for another year. 2 wins in the cup and we win that as well.
Fair play to Borough they have had a great season themselves, they could have secured the title at their place but failed to take the opportunity. HBU are looking forward to the match. Everyone who can (from all clubs) should get to the pier next saturday night. It will be the last premierleague match ever to be played on the pier, so it will be a historic night.
Good luck to all involved from both sides. HBU can't wait.

I see the mind games have begun. Should be a great game of hockey, shame it's so far away (from Fax) as I would love to watch it.
My money's on Boro! |

After a tense and thrilling match, Middlesbrough struck in the last 90 seconds to win the 2010-11 season with a superb 4-3 win to win the league by 6 points and remain unbeaten for the entire season.
Despite a full and vociferous crowd who where supporting the home team, 2 goals each from Owen Stewart and Maiol Giralt secured the league title
Well done Middlesbrough , the opportunity was taken with both hands
Now off to the Pub to celebrate

On saturday 5th june 2011, Middlesbrough Made the 6 hour trip to Herne Bay, Kent for their final fixture of the season against current premier league champions Herne Bay united.
The home fixture saw Middlesbrough scrape a 7-7 draw, but Boro made the journey 3 points ahead of HBU meaning boro just needed a draw to win the premier league title
The game started with both teams pressing hard and trying to force a mistake. It took 20 minutes before
HBU scored first with a deflected slap shot past keeper Dan Palmer. HBU's aggressive defence then began to cause them problems when they conceded a direct free hit which was converted by Maiol Giralt.
With the score 1-1 at half time, Herne bay united took the initiative after the break and scored twice in a minute to rock Middlesbrough. However Boro continued to press and got back into the game with 8 minutes left when Giralt scored his second after dribbling 3 players and lifting the ball into the net over the goalkeepers shoulder.
This goal gave Middlesbrough the confidence to keep pressing, and with 2 minutes left on the clock, Owen Stewart hit a speculative shot through a crowd of players from a tight angle which found it's way into the bottom corner of the net.
HBU pressed hard again looking for a Winner, but with 44 seconds on the clock they conceded a second direct free hit. Owen Stewart stepped up, and after being made to re-take the direct free hit , calmly slotted the ball into to the top corner of the net to silence to the partisan home supporters.
Middlesbrough played out the last 13 minutes without conceding a single foul To frustrate Herne bay who were looking to win their own direct free hit and trying to influence the referees.
Boro saw the game out to win 4-3 and win the National Premier League for the first time in the clubs history by 6 points, with an unbeaten record.
The team who played were:-
Dan Palmer
John Jones
Sam Kay
Maiol Giralt
Michael Ableson
Garry Todd
Grant Zaccaria
Peter Lonsdale
Owen Stewart

Congratulations.
I am happy for the people I know in Borough.
I also heard that you deserved the victory on the night.
My opinion is that you were the most regular team this season. WELL DONE. _________________ for Roller Hockey issues you may call me on 07850593239 |

Just a massive shame the Premier League trophy was not there for us to hold a loft. When we lost title to HBU last year we sat and watched them celebrate. Then had to watch it be lifted again on cup finals day.
A small upset in what was otherwise an amazing day and a historic one for a club. |

The Trophy wasn't there because last year we got in trouble as it shouldn't have been presented and should only be presented on cup finals day.
Anyway congratulations to Middlesbrough |

I have already been challenged by Keith Allen on this point.
I explained that even though, as Brendan said, Keith had told us on the previous occasions that it was 'way out of order' to have the trophy there even if for the local press and the obvious photo opportunity I had fully intended it to be there again for the winner.
However I just forgot it, plain and simple. Too many things on my mind and to do and no-one to check me as Ron etc in Portugal with the HBU Vets team.
I remembered it at half-time but it was too late to do anything about it. It should have been on display in the foyer with the other items we had placed there for the occasion. _________________ Aileen |

I had discussed this with john, just a general chat.
And last year we had no problem with you having the trophy and cant really see an issue.
Unless for an example the league is very close and two sets of results decide the title and the trophy needs to be and two ends of UK. But if the title was over for all but two teams and one game whats the harm.
Like you said if you got in trouble it cant be one rule for one then let us do it year after you lot get told off. Just a shame thats all.
It was a tough game and HBU are a great team. The mark of true Champions is if we can do it again next year and make sure its not a one off. 2011/2012 should be fun cant wait.
The crowd that was there was quality, All tho its a bloody long way and painful road trip I can really say I will miss playing the pier!! |

I believe the league changed from the Super League in the early 1990's. but you would have to check the oracle I'm sure my mother knows.
I believe that realistically the Trophy should be presented on Cup Final's Day as it generally has been except for last season when we received our wrist slapping and just so it is clear the complaints did hit the ground this year and again the wrist slapping has ensued so sometimes you just can't win.
Anyways again why not email or phone and ask, if you want the trophy sooner maybe it can be couriered and insured as it is worth quite a bit(prob best not say as it might get stolen or melted down).
I can send you a photo of the Premier League cup if that helps I have a few.
see you all soon

Hi.
Yeah a photo would be nice please mate.
I think at the end of the game emotions were a little high. Having been screamed at by the crowd most of the game I think most of the lads just wanted a trophy and that coupled with the little fight think it all got a bit sour which is a shame.
But to be expected when two teams want some thing so bad.
And we do not know what happen to you lot behind closed doors i.e. you getting in trouble. If thats the case then its only right it wasnt there but think these things should be communicated better with the clubs so that at the end of a game every one knows what to expect.
So at Boro we are sorry if any offence was caused about the trophy, maybe this needs to be an issue at the AGM so that all clubs no all trophy including leage will be handed out at National Cup finals. |

Dan & Middlesbrough
If you were in our shoes and you were holders of the trophy , and it was still in your custody, and the deciding match was at home would you not have wanted it there for the local press photos and your local supporters? You already had it so why not show you had retained it! Winning it once is good retaining it is great.
We actually only did it three times. On each occasion we were told 'out of order'. This time I was prepared to do the wrong thing again for the same reason but just forgot it but got questioned as to whether it was not there just because we had lost it to you guys! That hurt! Having it there was deemed wrong and it appears not having it there was also wrong! HBU can't do anything right sometimes!
Of course we were gutted but you had not been beaten all season and that is what marks out a true league champion.
At the end of next season you will have the trophy and maybe the title will be settled somewhere other than Herne Bay! It will then be your decision as to whether to produce the trophy or not!
Re the history - The 1st name on the trophy which is ' The Crystall Palace Rink Hockey Challenge Cup' apart from it's orginal one 1909 Goys United, is 1974 won by Wolverhampton and again in '75. Folkestone took it in '76 followed by Wolverhampton again in '77. Middlesbrough Crest won it the next 2 years '78 & '79. Southsea then put their name on it every year until 1992 (a total of 13 times).
H.B.U won it from 1993 until 1998 (6 times). Letchworth won it in '99 the season HBU/Maidstone and Sheffield boycotted the League after a dispute about changing the competition format.
The original format was reinstated in 2000 and HBU won it for the next 5 seasons until in 2005 when Bury beat them. HBU then took it back holding it for 5 more years (a total of 16 times) until June 4th 2011 when Middlesbrough earned the right to put their name on it!
This trophy was not always the one that gave the Nat Champions the title but the 'The Kimber Trophy', now the Nat Senior Cup Trophy. So not all the names I have listed, certainly those before 1975, were possibly declared the UK Champion Club Team. This however needs to be verified by Roger Pout. _________________ Aileen |
